Feeling rushed during your wedding is less than ideal. We have found there are a few common things that suck the time away. This can cause stress and the feeling of rushing through your day. We have narrowed down to the most common things that can easily be avoided with a little pre-planning.

Hair and Make Up Runs Late

This is so common, it’s worth mentioning first. When Hair and Make Up runs late with you or your wedding party, it causes a domino effect of delays for the rest of the day. We see this at almost every wedding, don’t let this happen – it’s easily fixable with a little pre-planning and over budgeting time.

The Solution: When scheduling your hair and make up, always allow for at least 45 minutes padded to the timeline. So if you need HAMU to be done by 1:45pm ask them to be wrapped up by 1pm. If they say it will take 4 hours, put in the timeline 5 hours, with the additional hour of buffering at the end of the session.

Pro Tip: Padding the timeline with 15-45 minutes in each section of the day. This is because things will eventually not be on time, and if you plan for these overages, you and everyone around you will be less stressed. And less stress is a happier wedding day experience!!

Waiting on Uncle So-and-So

Waiting on anyone who needs to arrive before the scheduled ceremony. This can be for a special moment or those who need to be in family portraits before the ceremony. Waiting around can delay the timeline.

The Solution: Share the timeline with your wedding party and family.  Have a special timeline created for your VIP guests, the ones you will be relying on to independently arrive early for photos, getting ready, ect. Making the timeline simple, with times and locations for the key events you need them for outside the normal flow of the wedding will help everyone be responsible for themselves.

Messy room where your getting ready

Your photo and video crew have two choices; to shoot around the half empty water bottles and pajamas, or we can clean it up ourselves. Both choices will result in loss time we could be shooting setting up a detail shot or possibly missing a spontaneous moment.

The Solution: Keep the room your getting ready in tidy, or assign a few people in your wedding party to help tidy up before your photo and video teams arrive. Leftover room service put in the hall, empty water bottles thrown away, and luggage placed in the closets. Ask everyone help to keep the room clean while getting ready. Enlisting in everyones help will help keep down the clutter throughout the getting ready part of the day.

Not knowing how to tie a bowtie

Bowties are dapper and one of our favorite trends on the rise. But with this trend, we see a rise of groomsmen late because they are stuck watching “how to tie a bowtie”  YouTube videos on replay. We’ve seen a wedding party almost 2 hours late for this very reason!

The Solution: If the pre-tied ones aren’t an option, be sure to practice. YoutTube tutorials are great, but not when you under the pressure of time.

I repeat; do not rely on using youTube the day of the wedding to learn to tie a bowtie.

Try wearing one to a few other special occasions. Perhaps a pre wedding date, and rehearsal dinner to test your skills under less pressure. Make sure the entire wedding party is prepared to tie their own too. You don’t want one person delayed because they were tying everyone else’s.

Luckily, Jamie knows how to tie one, and has on many occasions, saved the day after a bit of a panic from the wedding party. Her current record is tying 22 groomsmen’s bowties at one wedding. – Let’s try not to break that record.
