Last month I held an educational seminar for local wedding professionals. I was motivated to host this event after several phone calls from various wedding vendors asking questions on how to handle particular events they experienced with same-sex couples. I saw the need for education and I decided to host a 1.5 hour seminar I named Becoming a Same-Sex Wedding Vendor.
While planning my wedding in a country who has very little exposure or education on how to appropriately address same-sex couples, I have felt the need to help other vendors. Obviously, it benefits wedding vendors who seek to serve gay weddings but more importantly help educate our industry as a whole so that they know how to properly address same-sex couples. We discussed particular nuances that same-sex couples may experience during the wedding process and shared best practices on how to effectively serve same sex couples before, during and after their wedding day.
We were able to collect over $400 to benefit the Zebra Coalition®. The Zebra Coalition® provides emergency and short-term housing for LGBT+ youth.
Thanks to friend and fellow Videographer, Taky, who flew all the way from LA to attend the seminar. He took a few photos for me.
We shot this gay wedding that was featured on the Trevor Project. And have recently been certified by the Gay Wedding Insitiute. We hope to shoot more same-sex wedding in Boston and New England. I had a blast speaking, and I felt like I re-discovered a passion of mine. I’m sure this wont be the last time.
